Dassault Systèmes recently participated in Australia’s largest mining event, International Mining and Resources Conference 2019 (IMARC 2019). The event was attended by over 7,000 attendees from over 100 countries and covered the entire mining supply chain, from exploration, to production and optimisation through new technologies. We were glad to engage with Australia’s dynamic mining community and continue building on our relationships key players across the global mining ecosystem.
In addition, during IMARC 2019, we were pleased announce the appointment of mining industry veteran, Michelle Ash, as GEOVIA CEO. Michelle will guide the growth of Dassault Systèmes business in the Natural Resources segments, based on next-generation 3DEXPERIENCE solutions,
If you had missed IMARC 2019, we take this opportunity to bring to you, a selection of videos interviews with Dassault Systèmes’ executives where they share their insights on key trends in the mining sector.
Keynote Panel Discussion
Thomas Grand, Dassault Systèmes’ VP, Energy & Materials Industry, was a speaker at IMARC 2019’s Keynote Panel Discussion on, “How do we overcome the non-technical issues to achieve business transformation, innovation and a workforce of the future?”
Here are some key takeaways:
- The key skills needed for the workforce of the future will be a combination of scientific knowledge, social collaboration and cultural awareness. These skills will not be replaced by technology, but instead will be “blended” with technology. Management needs to take into account, development and recognition of non-technical skills beyond sole technical and scientific skills.
- Work processes and methodologies are the main cause of silos. We need to transform them, allowing each specialist to understand their contribution to an overall purposeful workflow in order to make better and faster informed business decisions. This means more visibility and understanding of a shared business purpose across the workforce.
- Sustainability is a concept that is now shaping all initiatives in the mining industry. By optimising key end-to-end industrial processes, mining companies can deliver not only cost savings through improved efficiency, but also proven environmental footprint reduction.

Interview with Michelle Ash, our new GEOVIA CEO
We were pleased to interview our new GEOVIA CEO, Michelle Ash, in the video below, where she shares her views on the key transformations that are shaping Australia’s mining sector, as well as an overview of Dassault Systèmes’ approach to helping customers achieve their business goals.
Demonstrating the 3DEXPERIENCE Platform
The solutions that we demonstrated at our booth focus on helping mining companies rethink energy and materials innovation to create a sustainable future. Here are the innovations that we showcased:
Innovation Pod 1: Managing Mine Complexity
In managing mine complexity, you need near real-time precision modelling to optimise safety and efficiency. In this pod, we demonstrated how the 3DEXPERIENCE Twin provides integrated geological modelling and mine planning to address quality and safety. |
|
Innovation Pod 2: Enable Lean Mine Operations Management
Operating an efficient and streamlined mine operation is critical to helping mining businesses achieve their sustainability goals. In this pod, we demonstrated how Lean Mine principles helps to improve the efficiency of mining assets and make them more sustainable. |
|
Innovation Pod 3: Increasing Mining Intelligence with Decision Automation
With real-time connectivity to external data source, the 3DEXPERIENCE platform provides data analytics and predictive modelling for better decision-making. In this pod, we demonstrated contextualised decision support to optimise mine exploration and asset utilisation. |
|
Innovation Pod 4: Improve Operational Excellence
By streamlining business operations planning with, the 3DEXPERIENCE platform facilitates multiple levels of decision automation for operational excellence. In this pod, we demonstrated how alignment of production, maintenance and the workforce ensure value network optimisation. |
View the video below where Dassault Systèmes executives further elaborate on the different ways in which the 3DEXPERIENCE platform empowers innovation and sustainability in mining.
