? Run your lab from home

Is remote work here to stay?

In response to the Covid-19 pandemic, working remotely went from “occasionally” or “when necessary” to an essential practice for huge portions of the global workforce. The shift towards remote work was already underway, but now companies are planning to permanently transition portions of their employees to work from home.

According to recent Gartner survey, 51% of all knowledge workers worldwide are expected to be working remotely by the end of 2021.

It’s 27% more than in 2019. Gartner also estimates that remote workers will represent 32% of all employees worldwide by the end of 2021.

This is occurring not only to stop the spread of the virus, but with an eye to the bottom line – avoiding more severe cuts in employment.

In the science-based industries, many employees still need on-site access – getting in to their labs to set up, run and analyze experiments.

Collaborate safely

Social distancing and personal protective equipment (PPE) protocols can help ensure safety for scientists in the lab, but in-person collaboration will certainly suffer as a result.

However, scientific collaboration is also absolutely essential in driving product development and innovation.

And scientific collaboration is more than just sharing results or files through email or in a virtual meeting – it happens while looking at the experiments and results together, testing hypotheses quickly and making decisions based on the outcomes.

How do you accomplish this when you may be the only scientist allowed in the lab at one time?

Virtual collaboration and cloud-based scientific solutions were already being adopted well before 2020. But the global pandemic has brought into sharp focus the need to enable virtual scientific collaboration today, not just at some point in the future.

Fortunately BIOVIA customers are able to utilize BIOVIA ScienceCloud, a secure platform for scientific collaboration.

BIOVIA ScienceCloud

BIOVIA ScienceCloud lets scientists capture and store experimental data in a secure, unified environment. Working together on experiments within the included electronic laboratory notebook or project data management application is easier than ever.

The social networking approach to data sharing within the platform keeps scientists connected to their data and results, and to each other.

Scientists can also manage material inventories within ScienceCloud, ensuring they have needed chemicals on hand while also tracking inventory levels across global sites when working remotely.

Collaborate with all of your scientific colleagues across your organization, whether you are in the lab or working remotely using BIOVIA ScienceCloud.

Additionally, you can invite outside partners into secure collaboration spaces, which are easy to spin up in response to new projects. Consistent data capture and transmission in the cloud can help bring project results to fruition more quickly.
