DECIDE WHERE YOU’RE WILLING TO BE FLEXIBLE
<!––>Any project involves uncertainty.
The challenge lies in getting what you want – in spite of it.
As the old saying goes, ‘You can have anything you want but not everything you want.”
So what do you want? What are your non-negotiables, and where are you prepared to be flexible?
If sticking to the timeline is a priority, which of the following can be flexed:
- Budget?
- Scope?
- Quality?
Before embarking on an implementation, think carefully about your priorities and communicate them with those who will be making the daily decisions that determine whether the project will meet your definition of success.
If you know where you’re willing to be flexible, the project team can use that flexibility to your advantage.
Implementing an intelligent planning system is like landing a jumbo jet.
You can’t land a jumbo jet on a postage stamp.
Unless you’re in the business of designing them.
Will your culture help or hinder the implementation? Find out next week in the final article of the series.
