This week, we are excited to celebrate 30 years of bringing innovation to the mining industry.
Today is our 30th Anniversary. Throughout the week, we celebrated our “firsts” with fond memories of mining technology from Surpac and Minex to ECSI, Gemcom Software, and now GEOVIA. As a Dassault Systèmes brand, we look forward to our continued journey at the forefront of mining innovation in the future.
In Part 1, we heard from Dr. Tony Diering, Marni Rabasso, Gavin Low, Fiona Carew and Felix Walraven. Part 2 featured reflections on the last 30 years of mining technology innovation from Ed Thornton, our Mining Technical Customer Support Consultant and Dereck Prince, our Senior Technical Sales Consultant, and all-around Minex guru. Today, we are pleased to share thoughts from Steve Carter, our Chief Technology Officer, whose career in mining software spans nearly 30 years. Part 3 shared thoughts from Steve Carter, our Chief Technology Officer, whose career in mining software spans nearly 30 years. Today, we conclude the series look to the future of mining innovation with a post from GEOVIA’s CEO, Raoul Jacquand.
In 2012, Dassault Systèmes acquired Gemcom, and created the brand GEOVIA for its entrance into Natural Resources. As the leader in mining software solutions, GEOVIA is proud of our 30-year legacy of software innovation. We have a huge global reach to customers of all sizes in over 4,000 locations in almost 140 countries, covering all major mining centers. Dassault Systèmes is proud of its GEOVIA brand that includes a complete portfolio of mining solutions with 8 major products and more than 100 software modules. In the future, the GEOVIA brand will imagine and develop the mining solutions of tomorrow to lead in the transformation of the mining industry.
Looking to the future of Mining, how will Dassault Systèmes GEOVIA continue to lead the way?
As I joined Dassault Systèmes and GEOVIA just a few months ago, I certainly have no claim to the trajectory of GEOVIA (then Gemcom) over this remarkable 30-year journey. However, in my first client and staff interactions as representative of GEOVIA, I was struck by the depth of the mining culture that emanates from the “Gemcom” name, and the legacy that it conveys. It is, therefore, a tremendous and collective responsibility that we all have at GEOVIA to ensure that we live up to its history, and that we continue to deliver on the innovation agenda that our clients expect from us. We are determined to take GEOVIA to its next chapter, which will be written using the 3DEXPERIENCE platform as the next-generation vehicle to drive innovation into the mining sector.
What excites you about the future of Mining Innovation?
The industry seems to be reaching a turning point as it recognizes the need to embrace new practices (hence adopt new technologies) to address the challenges of sustainable, safe and profitable operations. There is a genuine intention to move away from being a very cyclical and risky environment, to, instead, one that establishes stable and predictable business models, attracting both investors and young professionals. Dassault Systèmes’ GEOVIA mining applications are a first step in providing our clients with the necessary software tools to reduce risk, increase productivity and exploit their assets over the long-term. Combined with additional elements from the Dassault Systèmes portfolio, and enabled by the power of the 3DEXPERIENCE platform, they will help reveal the impact innovative technology can have onto the Mining business now and in the years to come.
