Converting a Definition tab Into a Report Template in Whittle

At a recent meeting with a customer who has been using GEOVIA Whittle since 1997 (yep, a 20-year anniversary of ‘whittling’ for him), he was surprised to learn that users can save reports as a template without needing to redefine it each time for a new graph.

In my blog post today, I’ll share some tips around the Graph Template in Whittle.

There are various types of Graphs that can be created under Scenario node:

  • Pit by Pit Graph
  • Schedule Graph
  • Spider Graph
  • Bench Schedule, and more

Each graph has a Definition tab with a default set of outputs to be reported. However, users often customize the Definition tab to report other items. For example, below is the default Definition of a Pit by Pit Graph:

A customized Definition may include other items such as all the costs as well as metal produced, in order to calculate the all-in sustaining cost per ounce of gold for each pit.

To save the customized Definition as a template, right click on the Pit by Pit Graph > Other > Convert to Template:

Name the graph under the Template description. In this example I have named it Pit by Pit Graph – AISC.

It will appear under the list of templates already created:

To retrieve the saved template, right click on the Scenario node > Add > Graph Template, then select the template from the list.

All templates are stored in the graphTemplates.ini file located under the following folder (please replace text in red with your custom information).

C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Roaming\GEOVIA\GEOVIA Whittle\<whittle version number>

If the template file needs to be transferred into another Whittle version or a different computer, simply copy and paste the graphTemplates.ini into the relevant folder (replace existing file, but do a backup copy first!)
