Creating Custom Menus in GEOVIA GEMS

The menu bar in GEOVIA GEMS contains menus that show a list of commands. There are five additional floating custom menus under Options > Toolbar > Custom Menu that relate to frequently used tasks within specific modules:

  • Cut Evaluation
  • Go Simulator
  • Pit Design
  • Surface Blast Design
  • Workspace Basics

Users can modify these existing menus or create new custom menus to organize commands. Here’s how to create a custom floating menu in GEMS:

  1. On the Tools menu, point to Other utilities and then click Export Menu to ASCII File.
  2. Name the menu (e.g. Block Model.mnu) and make sure the GEMS Menu subfolder is selected as the save location, and then click Save.
  3. On the File menu, click Exit to quit GEMS.
  4. Browse to the folder C:\Users\Public\Dassault Systemes\GEOVIA GEMS\<version>\menu and open the new menu file in a text editor (e.g. Notepad++).
  5. Edit the file by deleting unwanted portions of the menu and rearranging the remaining items into new columns. Please avoid renumbering menu commands.
  6. The following symbols may be used in the syntax:
    • Exclamation mark (!) to mark comment lines (GEMS will ignore these lines)
    • Quotation mark (“) at the beginning and at the end of text
    • Caret (^) to identify shortcut keys

  7. Save the new menu file (e.g. Block Model.mnu) in the folder C:\Users\Public\Dassault Systemes\GEOVIA GEMS\<version>\menu.
  8. Launch GEMS.
  9. On the Options menu, point to Toolbar, then to Custom Menu, and then click the custom menu that you want to display (e.g. Block Model).
