Dairy Company to take up Coal Mining

Here’s a story you don’t hear every day.

According to Mining Australia, Fonterra, known globally for its dairy conglomerate, will soon begin work on an open cut coal mine in New Zealand. With a goal of producing 120 000 tonnes of coal to power its milk drying plants, Fonterra plans to mine the 30 hectare site over the next eight years to ensure the cost of coal and security of supply.
