InSite – Bridging the gap between Mine Planning KPI’s and actual/event KPI’s.

One of the key value propositions of GEOVIA InSite’s Mine + Plant Production Management offering is that it’s core design, architecture, and intent is for ‘bridging the gap’ between mine planning KPIs and actual/event KPIs.

For every activity/event that our customers measure and track in InSite as actual, we try to encourage them to incorporate the planned/target value for each KPI.

 

KPI Configuration

In InSite, a KPI is some value (a number or text value – the ‘what’), and attributes that describe the value (i.e. ‘who’, ‘when’, ‘where’). This definition is true for both planned and actual. In a perfect world, planned and actual KPIs would be described in exactly the same way, but typically planning geologists and engineers and execution engineers describe things somewhat differently, and that is perfectly OK and often for good reasons.

The best way to configure KPIs in InSite for ‘apples to apples’ comparisons, is to do so at the lowest level of detail that is possible. Here is an illustration for a common KPI, PAYLOAD – VOLUME (BCM):


 

Notice with a configuration as above, we are providing many ways to compare the one piece of information (roughly 100x 120BCM Truck Loads of material moved), and we haven’t allowed any restrictions (to the extent of the information that is available).

We can’t compare the KPI by Bench because in this case it is not planned in advance (at least not from a budget/forecast perspective), but we can compare by Pit Phase. We can’t compare by Material Seam, but we can compare by Material Type. We can’t compare by Operator, but we can compare by Crew. We can’t compare by specific Truck units, but we can compare by Fleet.

The example is only one type of KPI and InSite allows each KPI to be configured according to user needs. This provides maximum flexibility.
