InSite Tips – Designing Dashboards

The purpose of this blog post is to discuss using the InSite Dashboarding feature.

Dashboards aggregate and extract collected data into a more manageable visual representation. Dashboards can assist with making decisions that improve business performance, and thus profitability.

For reporting, InSite uses Microsoft SQL Server Reporting Services (Power BI), moving towards Dassault Systemes’ EXALEAD, however there is a need to provide quick information for users within the InSite Web UI itself so InSite also has an in-built native Dashboard feature.

To create a dashboard use the designer which can be accessed from the top right drop-down near your username. (Pre-requisite: must have the InSite Data Warehouse running.)

Choose to create a “New Dashboard”

In our example we’ll call it “Dashboard”.

InSite supports three different types of Dashboards.

  • Material Flow – which is a visual representation of the movement of material
  • Custom Chart – which is a chart/graph designer
  • SSRS Report – which is to embed an external SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS) report into the InSite web (not discussed here)

MATERIAL FLOW DASHBOARD

To create a Material Flow – drag “Material Flow” into the main window

It will open the dashboard screen

To setup the material flow, choose “Configure Flow” in the bottom right

Select a site – Next

From the screen you need to select a measurement (normally weight or volume) and tick “activity” or “movement”

Drag at least two location types into the designer and place as required.

Save

In “Mappings” you can choose which InSite webpage you’d like the dashboard to appear in

In “Access” you can set security on who can use the Dashboard:

Sign Out to refresh

Sign in again

By repeating this process for more and more location types, a full material flow can be created.

CHART DASHBOARD

To create a Chart – drag “Custom Chart” into the main window

Select the screen region

Choose “Configure Chart” in the bottom right

There are four chart types:

  • Line
  • Bar
  • Pie
  • KPI

For Data Set choose “Actual”

Then select various fields to select the right data:

In the below screen shots we select “Crusher Feed” then “Wet Weight”

For the X-axis choosing “Period End Date” is typical

Save, and you have a chart!

You can change chart types and add more charts until you have an amazing Dashboard that helps you monitor and manage your organization!

There are many benefits to using the InSite Dashboards:

  • Visually view important information
  • Make your own dashboards
  • Built in to the software

Any InSite customer is able to use this feature without any extra licensing. All that’s required is a little training.
