GEOVIA InSite provides mining operations with near real-time data analytics for decision support and enables conformance to plan. Part of its ability to collect, centralize and validate production data depends on the quality of historical information it stores. It is therefore important to use one of InSite’s locking mechanisms to keep historical data safe so that it will not be affected by any configuration changes down the track.
There are two options to lock the data in InSite:
- Material Balance, or
- Account Period
The first option is part of InSite’s normal process flow as a data tracking system. However, there are some site operations that are not interested in data reconciliation, so the Material Balance module is not configured to be used in the operation and therefore the data is not locked. This is when the second option needs to be applied.
The second option locks the data without needing to run the material balance module. Locking the data in this way enables the user to keep and save the data for the desired period (usually monthly) without running the risk of accidental updating (e.g. via bulk update, user errors and so on). If the data is not locked, data corruption could affect reporting and dashboarding figures.
You can do this via Account Period page. In this case, the InSite owner/administrator needs to do the following:
- Set the date period (Start Date and End date)
- Add a code, for instance, the date of the data upload
- Add a description (this could also be the date)
- Select the “All Data Locked” option under the Lock Status column, as shown below.
If a site configuration needs to be changed, you will need to lock your data prior to implementing the new configuration. Otherwise, your data will be propagated or modified and all old transactions will attempt to be updated, which could generate calculation errors due to old and new configurations not matching up within the activity period.
