Mincor Resources NL Saves Time, Money and Resources with Surpac

Late last year, GEOVIA travelled to Kambalda, Australia to meet with the operations team at Mincor Resources NL. Mincor, a long-time customer, has been using Surpac for over 10 years to maximise the production of ore through the ability to effectively interpret data in the exploration of narrow-vein nickel sulphide mines.

“Our biggest challenge is with cost,” said Mark Muller, Chief Geologist at Mincor. “We are looking at better and more efficient ways of mining so we can reduce costs and keep everybody in a job.”

Offering a cost-effective 3D solution,Surpac enables Mincor to visualise drilling information and ensure it is kept on track to prevent waste. By creating a 3D model of the contact point, Mincor can accurately predict the intersection point and adjust the dip and azimuth of the hole, resulting in both time and cost savings. “Surpac ensures that I can see how we’re going in 3-dimension…working with other departments to ensure we are getting the maximum amount out in the quickest possible time,” said Paul Darcey, Mine Manager, Mariners Nickel Mine.

Linking all departments, surveyors, engineers and geologists to the same data set, Surpac saves Mincor time, money and resources by facilitating communications between all stakeholders. According to Laura Moore, Projects Geologist, “it allows us to plan ahead; it allows us to plan for failure and it allows us to see where we need to go.”

Surpac helps Mincor define, explore and communicate the results to reduce waste. “The quick turnaround allows us to optimise our drilling and it does tie it in all together,” said Muller. “We are all pretty happy.”
