Pennsylvania Coal Alliance taps honorees

Six Pennsylvania geology services and one subsidiary of a West Virginia company were recognized earlier this month by the Pennsylvania Coal Alliance, according to published reports.

At its yearly dinner on August 21, the Alliance handed out its 2013 Reclamation Awards to companies that exceeded state and federal regulations regarding the treatment of coal mining sites, The Daily American reports.

The firms that were recognized were: Amerikohl Mining, Inc., of Butler; Black Cat Coal LLC of Curwensville; Coal Loaders, Inc., of Ligonier; Croner Inc. of Friedens; PBS Coals Inc of Friedens and Waroquier Coal Company of Clearfield, the Pennsylvania Coal Alliance website states. Shannopin Materials LLC, a unit of MEPCO of Morgantown, West Virginia, also was recognized.

The top official of one company that was honored said the recognition is a great source of pride for the firm and the rank and file.

“PBS and its employees continue to share a balanced commitment to ensure our values toward safety and efficiency while continuing to be good stewards of our environment,” president and chief executive officer D. Lynn Shanks with PBS Coals said, according to Daily American. “These awards demonstrate that these commitments can be achieved.”
