Today’s post comes from our Business Development Specialist, Trent Jackson.
In August, Dassault Systèmes GEOVIA participated in Diggers & Dealers, one of the biggest annual mining forums in Australia attracting over 2000 delegates from leading mining companies, investors and mining service providers.
During the three-day conference, we heard from leading mining companies around Australia – some of these being our customers – on the challenges facing the mining industry and their plans for the future. Despite the cyclical nature of the industry and lowered commodity prices, conference chair Nick Giorgetta was positive about the road ahead.
“Challenging times bring opportunities and in the last six months we have seen a revival in acquisition and M&A activities. Importantly, in a sign of confidence in the industry, we are seeing companies being able to raise money through equity, something that was much more difficult to do 12 months ago,” said Giorgetta. “Even though times are difficult for the industry, it is my expectation that we will leave here buoyed with confirmation that companies are still delivering strong operational results and, having taken steps to align the business models to the economic circumstances, as business should, we still have a substantial industry in good shape and with a strong future.”
Our team is similarly positive about the future of the mining industry. It was great to speak with customers and hear firsthand from some of the top mining firms in the region. Despite what we hear in the news it’s not all doom and gloom, many of them are performing strongly and continue to expand operations and invest in IT.
We have seen the power of innovative technology and its ability to transform the face of mining to deliver unprecedented increases in productivity. What we can look forward to in the future is increasingly sophisticated software to better model the planet in 3D, so we can continue to help the mining industry reduce costs, create backup plans, and improve project accuracy.
We will be on the road again soon exhibiting at IMARC in Melbourne from 9-13 November 2015. If you are attending, stop by our booth to discuss how we can help your future in mining.
