It’s Tip Tuesday! Today’s post comes from Christina Ludwicki, one of our Knowledge Mining Consultants.
When working with GEOVIA PCBC™, residual models are used to depict the remaining tonnes and grade which remain after a mining process. In PCBC, a Residual Model can be created by using the depleted slice file from a production schedule.
Here are the steps to update a residual model in PCBC:
1. When creating the initial slice file, it is important to save the cave_per.dat file. This file is automatically created in the Blockcave folder as the slice file is created, and it reports the percentage of the block that is within the slice. It is important to save this file separately, either by renaming the file or moving it to a new location, as each time a new slice file is created it will save over this file.
2. After running the production scheduler, the cave area will turn red, indicating that it requires to be saved. If you are running GEOVIA GEMS™ 6.7 or greater, right-click on the cave area, and select save, this will prompt for a new name. (In older versions, will have to create a copy through the PCBCCURR.dsf file in the blockcave folder). This is your residual slice file.
3. Create caved material rocktype, and initialize all material that has been caved in the standard folder to this value.
4. Create a second Folder in the block model for the depleted model to update.
5. Create an Advanced Profile for the Inverse Distance Update (ID1).
6. Copy the cave_per.dat file back into the block cave file, and assign the proper residual slice file.
7. Run the function PCBC>Block Utilities>Update Folder using Inverse Distance. Click Yes to update block model from slice file data, and select the inverse distance advanced profile.
This will update the percentages in the standard folder, and will populate the depleted folder. The percent in both the Standard and Depleted folder should add up to 100.
