Updating Variables in Borehole Database in GEOVIA Minex

In today’s tip, I will talk about the operation “Update Variables from Grid”, which enables GEOVIA Minex users to update a quality variable in a borehole database from a user-nominated grid.

This feature will help resource geologists who are working with working sections that are generated from grid SQL, or imported from other software. This will allow you to:

  • Update your borehole database with these grid models
  • Generate Roof and Floor Slope grids through seam model operations, which can then update the borehole database for subsequent use.

Before we start, please ensure that:

  • Your borehole database (.b31) is open
  • The quality variables you are updating are in the borehole database as numeric type.
  • The Seam from/to Variable is an alpha string type variable
  • The Seam From/To Variable and the Quality Variable are the same Datatype
  • The particular grid from which quality data needs to be updated in borehole database is in the current project directory

Once the Seam From/To Variable and Quality Variable (for example, ASH) have been created in the quality datatype, you will need to load the .A33 file or the seam pick file a in Seam From/To Variable through sample load functionality.

For instance, if you would like to update ASH values to the borehole database from any existing grid, you will need to generate the following variables:

  1. Create Seam From/To variable as Alpha string
  2. Create Seam Quality variable as Numeric Variable in same Data type.
  3. Load A33 file or seam pick file in to Seam From /To variable through Sample load functionality like any other sample.
  4. Go to Borehole DB > Edit > Update Variable from Grid.
  5. Click OK to update the quality variable from nominated grid.
  6. When you perform the Update Variable from Grid the data is assigned an E tag to show that the data is not ‘real sample data’.

Now your data will be updated to the borehole database. For more Minex posts, you can read Maintaining Correct Hole Order on Borehole Cross Sections in Minex.
