Aero India Highlights – Day 2: Dassault Systèmes Showcases Technologies for Modernization and Indigenization

Aero India Highlights: The 13th edition of Aero India is currently underway in Bengaluru, exploring the theme of “Runway to a Billion Opportunities.” On Day 1, Defense Minister Rajnath Singh led the inauguration, and we were delighted to host luminaries from KPMG, Bharat Earth Movers Limited, CSIR National Aerospace Laboratories, Aeronautical Development Agency (ADA), and Hindustan Aeronautics Limited at our booth no. A6.6 & A6.8.

Bookanakere Siddalingappa Yeddyurappa, Honourable Chief Minister of Karnataka, also visited us on Day 1, as did H.E. Emmanuel Lenain, French Ambassador – speaking with our experts on key insights and industry updates.

Day 2 commenced with the second session of the Chiefs’ of Air Staff Conclave, followed by the Indian Ocean Region (IOR) Defense Ministers’ Conclave. Speaking on the occasion, Defense Minister Rajnath Singh laid special emphasis on the need for countries in the IOR to closely collaborate, resolve common challenges, and strive towards a better future.

The Government of India also formally closed the Tejas LCA procurement deal from aerospace major Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL), which is an industry-first in line with the sector’s Make in India philosophy.

“The aerospace and defense sector in India is at an inflection point given the large-scale modernization and indigenization programs being undertaken by the government,” commented Ravikiran POTHUKUCHI, Director and Industry Lead for Aerospace & Defense in India, Dassault Systèmes.

“Companies in this sector have to cater to stakeholder expectations of lower costs, higher standards, and increased capabilities, along with growing program complexity. At Aero India 2021, Dassault will be showcasing Industry Solution Experiences based on the 3DEXPERIENCE Platform, which are tailored to meet the requirements of the aerospace and defense industry,” he added.

Booth Inauguration and Industry Solution Experiences on Display

On Day 2, the Dassault Systèmes booth was inaugurated by the Ordnance Factory Board team, as they visited us to speak with our experts on factory modernization through digitalization. Our experts, Ravikiran POTHUKUCHI along with Javeed HERIAL, Industry Process Consultant, Director, CATIA, Dassault Systèmes, Umashankar G, Industry Process Technical Executive, Aerospace and Defense, Dassault Systèmes, and Anant SADARJOSHI, Industry Process Consultant Manager, Aerospace and Defense, Dassault Systèmes conducted a detailed walkthrough with the Ordnance Factory Board team.

We were also pleased to have Ordnance Factory Medak, Government of India, at our booth, where we demonstrated our connected engineering capabilities and discussed the digitization of the shop floor.

The Industry Solution Experiences based on the 3DEXPERIENCE Platform address targeted challenges in the aerospace and defense sector. In addition to in-booth demonstrations of the Co-design to Target, Program Excellence, Ready for Rate, and Build to Operate industry solution experiences, we also conducted a fully virtual workshop on Engineer to Fly, which customers and industry stakeholders could attend from home.

The virtual workshop was geared to help aerospace and defense OEMs and suppliers reduce complexity in developing new bids, enable collaboration, and accelerate manufacturing ramp-up – in line with Aero India’s first-ever hybrid event format, where live videos would be streamed from the venue every day.

Insightful Discussions and Immersive Experiences

Across day 2, industry stakeholders from the Defense Research and Development Organization (DRDO), CoreEL, Gas Turbine Research Establishment (GTRE), Aerolincs Aviation, Oak Systems, Vinir Engineering, and Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) visited our booth. The Oak Systems team had an insightful conversation with our experts on the various aspects of software development lifecycle for aircraft systems. We also showcased our capabilities in manufacturing execution systems (MES), to the team from Vinir Engineering. Representatives from HAL (RWRDC), joined our experts in a discussion of the simulation and data analytics capabilities of the 3DEXPERIENCE Platform.

The technology we explored with our esteemed visitors are central to unlocking key efficiencies that India’s aerospace and defense ecosystem must aim for on the road ahead.

Even as we interacted with booth visitors, several event attendees witnessed a hands-on virtual reality (VR) demonstration of the Kaveri Engine at our booth, including members from Gas Turbine Research Establishment (GTRE), CoreEL, and ADA
