India is a country of 1.25 billion and about a quarter of its population lives without access to electricity. There’s a wide gap between India’s energy production and consumption. Amid the projected economic growth and the continual increase in population, the demand for energy in India is expected to double in the next two decades. However, leveraging the best conditions in the world to harness solar energy that India has, we are moving forward from installing solar panels on rooftops to setting up huge solar parks. India ranks third after US and China among the 40 countries on the road to renewable. Government’s immediate goal is to generate two trillion units by 2019 and ramp up solar power generation to 100 GW by 2022. The World Bank Group, with its largest ever support for solar energy in any country, is helping India deliver on its plans with more than $1 billion over FY 2017. The rapid expansion of solar industry in the country is certainly a ray of hope for the energy sector and its citizens. Solar is the road ahead, and India must turn to the sun to power up its future!
