As the world moves towards smarter products, faster time to market, and sustainability, it is vital that we revisit traditional approaches to product development. Advanced design, modeling, and simulation functionalities are poised to transform the product development process, meeting the needs of a future economy. Know more about the possibilities with integrated modeling and simulation here.
On November 24 and 25, 3DEXPERIENCE Conference India 2020: Design, Modeling and Simulation brought together our user community for an engaging discussion on new projects, specific features and new functionalities on 3DEXPERIENCE platform powered by industry leading brand applications – CATIA, SIMULIA, ENOVIA, EXALEAD and 3DEXCITE.
Deepak NG, Managing Director India, Dassault Systèmes, inaugurated the conference, highlighting India’s role as a major innovation hub. As the country’s industrial sector works towards government mandates towards “Make in India” while also adding capabilities to “export elsewhere,” MODSIM approach or integrating of modeling and simulation technology will be critical to achieving this target.
Our plenary sessions explored the core elements of integrated modeling & simulation (MODSIM approach) and how it could dramatically improve product development, benefitting various engineering and other roles, as well as the end customer.
Renuka SRINIVASAN, Director SIMULIA at Dassault Systèmes and Rajiv Aramadaka, Brand Leader CATIA, Dassault Systemes, explained how CATIA and SIMULIA could enable more effective products: “The CATIA promise is “shape the world we live in,” and the SIMULIA promise is to “reveal the world we live in.” By combining the two, we can build better products through Integrated Modeling & Simulation as they accurately depict how the product will behave in the real world and the environment it operates in.”
This is a significant leap from the traditional approaches in use today. Praveen MYSORE, Customer Solution Experience – Industry Consultant Director, Dassault Systèmes, elaborated on this further by explaining how 3DEXPERIENCE platform manages Multi CAD data & makes it available for downstream processes by leveraging CATIA, DELMIA for manufacturing planning & SIMULIA for multiphysics simulation.
Advanced design and simulation tools align design with real-world needs perfectly, and this is relevant for nearly every product experience one could imagine. “From mass electronic portable devices to small medical products, engineers must deliver high-grade quality, innovative features, and best-in-class performance, faster than ever before,” said David HOLMAN, Vice President, SIMULIA R&D during a session titled “Modeling & Simulation R&D Portfolio and New Applications.”
Additionally, Our experts Adrien MANN, SIMULIA Worldwide Industry Process Expert Director, Industrial Equipment, Dassault Systemes, Gregory LASKOWSKI, SIMULIA Fluids Industry Process Expert Director, Dassault Systemes and Liangbo HU, SIMULIA Industry Process Consultant, China, Dassault Systemes discussed The Key Role of Modeling & Simulation in the Fight Against the Pandemic. The session focused on specifically four areas :
- Turnkey, ready-to-use infectious disease hospital solutions
- Acceleration of the development of life-saving technologies
- Empowering customers to shift manufacturing sites to ventilator production
- Next-gen ventilation systems

Breakout Sessions Exploring Useful Action Points
Across Day 1 and Day 2, the conference had nine discrete breakout sessions covering:
- New technologies in CATIA – We examined the newly introduced technologies in CATIA, highlighting its applications for industrial equipment projects, reverse engineering, and geomechanics. This breakout also discussed the applications of cloud-based generative design offering
- Electromagnetics reliability and performance – Some of the latest updates in SIMULIA were explored in detail, along with specific sessions on Simulation Based Lightning Protection of Next Generation Offshore Wind Turbine, 5G Private Network Design in a Smart Factory Environment. K. V. Narasimham (Retd.), Co-Founder, Quanteon Powertrain conducted a session on ‘Axial Flux Machine Design – A Journey with Opera’
- Model-based systems engineering(MBSE), and cyber-physical systems – Our experts explained that MBSE is the formalized application of modeling to support system requirements, design, analysis, verification and validation activities beginning in the conceptual design phase and continuing throughout development and later life cycle phases. The sessions highlighted how the solution aids in multi-disciplinary systems modeling and analysis, the development of cyber-physical systems, in-the-loop validation, and its applications in battery design.
- Simulation-driven engineering – Spread across Day 1 and Day 2, this breakout track focused on the various aspects of engineering enhanced by SIMULIA. Attendees gained action points on leveraging SIMULIA for agricultural vehicle development, torsional vibration in farm equipment, exhaust durability assessment, motorcycle simulation, regulatory compliance, and HVAC noise reduction.
Modeling and simulation for aerospace & defense and unmanned aerial vehicles
- Virtual validation in aerospace & defense – Topics such as designing next-gen aircraft, damage simulations, antenna for satellite communications, and additive manufacturing, were elaborated during this track, with participation from customers from Collins Aerospace India Design Center and Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO).
- Advanced simulations for indigenous space missions – This breakout delved into the specifics of space engineering using simulation, such as the separation system of launch vehicles, and soft goods structure analysis. Attendees had an opportunity to learn more about SIMULIA solutions for the space industry.
Design challenges in UAVs and drones – The breakout witnessed customer presentations by XSun and BrainSightAI, a session on urban air mobility, and a special presentation by the winners of our recent virtual Drone-a-thon.
