3D Printing and 3DVIA – Powering the Personalized Shopping Experience

With wedding season now in full-swing, picture this familiar scenario: you walk into a store looking for the perfect piece of jewelry, be it a necklace, ring, or a pair of earrings. Whether you’re searching for a signature piece to complete a stylish outfit, or you’re buying a gift for a friend, you need something that will fit a specific look…and if you’re shopping for wedding rings, the stakes are even higher. You want something unique, something personal. Unfortunately, after going to several stores, you just can’t quite find what you’re looking for. What if there was a way for you to create the exact piece of jewelry you want, when you want it?

You will, soon.

Today we introduced the 3DVIA Make platform which empowers retailers to leverage 3D printing to give their customers the ultimate personalized experience when shopping for jewelry, along with some other everyday products. Instead of wandering store to store, customers will be able to create exactly what they’re looking for online. 3DVIA Make makes it easy for retailers to deliver the experience of customized shopping to their customers and reduces the need for retailers to maintain large back-end inventories and undertake lengthy fulfillment processes.

3DVIA Make is designed to augment each retailer’s own online store, providing the space for customers to create their own unique jewelry and choose their own variety of colors, shapes, designs and materials. The retailers set the parameters that each product can be customized within, and the customers do the rest. The program gives the customer a 360® view of their exciting design, so that they can ensure it’s exactly what they want. Orders from the website can then be produced immediately by the retailer’s 3D printing infrastructure or service and shipped to the consumer.

At Dassault Systèmes, we think that 3D printing technology is the beginning of a revolution in the retail industry.

“3D printing lets retailers reduce inventory and create products on-demand, and 3DVIA Make creates the ultimate customer-facing experience to take advantage of this flexibility,” said Igal Kaptsan, VP of Product Management, 3DVIA MAKE, Dassault Systèmes. “By letting consumers easily created personalized products that meet their exact needs with very little infrastructure cost for the retailer, 3DVIA Make’s collaborative personalization creates a win-win for the customer, retailer and brand.”

We will be showing off our exciting program at JA New York at the end of July, showing jewelers just how 3DVIA Make can bring their products to the next level. JA New York is a tradeshow for high-end jewelry, one of the leading jewelry events on the east coast.

Along with jewelry, our 3DVIA Make application is currently focused on customizing other accessories and toys.Visit the 3DVIA Make home page for a demo, and see the future of custom retail creation.
