The annual 3DEXPERIENCE FORUM kicked off with an exciting day at the Copley Marriott in Boston. Dean Marsh, our managing director of North America started the event with outlining how adoption of the 3DEXPERIENCE platform is helping companies move beyond digitalization so transform their companies and secure market leadership. Marsh discussed his visits with customers through his first year at the company and highlighted stories of transformation including McDermott, a Global Offshore Engineering Services.

Dean then welcomed Dassault Systèmes CEO and Vice Chairman of the Board of Directors, Bernard Charlès to the stage. Bernard highlighted the closing of the acquisition of No Magic speaking briefly with CEO Gary Duncanson about the how the model-based systems engineering, and modeling solutions for software architecture and business processes will provide value to Dassault Systèmes customers.

Bernard than went onto discuss the Industry Renaissance, highlighting the major industry disruption being led by Dassault Systèmes customers like Tesla, Joby Aviation and CADMakers. Bernard described the Industry Renaissance as being much larger than digital technology or automation; it’s about knowledge and know-how. The key difference between Industry Renaissance leaders and those stuck in the “dark ages” is the leaders are the ones making a fundamental change in their industries. Leaders are creating new categories of solutions for new categories of customers. At the core of this movement is Dassault Systèmes’ 3DEXPERIENCE Platform, which is helping to break down silos, democratize data and bring together knowledge across organizations to usher in the Industry Renaissance.

Customer Craig Platt, VP of Technical Product Management, Digital Technology at GE then came to the stage. Craig discussed how Current, powered by GE launched the 3DEXPERIENCE Platform as a Service to digitize its business process. Current chose the 3DEXPERIENCE Platform after seeing competitors investing in digital technology, and understanding the need to transform their product offerings. In order to do that, Craig’s team needed to break down silos between business units. Like most non-digitized companies, the team was document oriented – everything was trapped in that document and couldn’t be easily communicated across the organization, making it hard to achieve Current’s business goals. Since the launch of the 3DEXPERIENCE platform, the company has experienced 67 percent reduction in cycle time for lighting products through change management and information governance. This made it possible for Current to stay ahead of emerging competitors.

The plenary session rolled on with Neil Meredith from MG McGrath, an architectural surface company, who presented on a template-based parametric modeling approach to design and fabrication. As the AEC industry adopts PLM technology, the 3DEXPERIENCE Platform is allowing companies like MG McGrath to connect different areas of their business, and more importantly different architecture partners, which cuts out the version control often faced in file-based systems. Neil also shared details behind their US Olympic Museum project, which is currently under construction in Colorado Springs, CO.

After a quick break, the plenary session commenced with a presentation by Nalin Joshi and Vishwesh Shete, executives at Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) who outlined their partnership with Dassault Systèmes to provide exponential value to end customers.
They were followed by the keynote speaker John Rossman, a former Amazon executive who built and scaled the company’s Marketplace. In his presentation, “How to Make the Digital Leap – Lessons from Amazon.” He outlined several Amazon principals that other companies could adapt to create disruption.
John reinforced to the audience the importance of the customer experience how technology such as IoT can be harnessed. He reminded us how we’ve all had at least one bad customer moment – running out of whatever product we’re using at the time. Amazon fixed this with the use of dash buttons, which allows customers to easily reorder their favorite products with the push of a button. Understanding the root cause of a customer pain point, Amazon was able to take advantage of IoT and stay true to its customer obsession model.
Rossman: Amazon is the most trusted brand in America. They’re not sitting on their laurels. Continue to look for ways to improve the customer experience. Focus on continuous improvement. Get to the root cause of an issue via metrics and fix it. #3DEXPERIENCE

To close the plenary session, Florence Verzelen, Dassault Systèmes’ newest Executive Vice President of Industry Solutions, Marketing, Global Affairs & Communications, explained how companies can empower the workforce of the future. She shared some of the key challenges that the world is facing in building tomorrow’s workforce, and how the 3DEXPERIENCE Platform can be deployed to address these challenges. More to come on this tomorrow.
