Dassault Systèmes hosted the grand opening of its 3DEXPERIENCE Lab Boston on May 30th with several hundred visitors including customers, partners, dignitaries and students in attendance. This new lab expands on Dassault Systèmes global footprint of open innovation labs, most recently including the 3DEXPERIENCE Center at WSU and including its 3DEXPERIENCE Lab in Paris, France.
According to Abhishek Bali, 3DEXPERIENCE Lab manager, Boston, “This new 3DEXPERIENCE Lab embraces the concept of the social enterprise and draws upon Dassault Systèmes’ long history of expertise in virtual technologies and open innovation to foster entrepreneurship and bring new experiences to life, while strengthening society´s future of creation.”
The 3DEXPERIENCE Lab is a 3,100 square foot state-of-the-art open innovation laboratory with two complementary programs that use cross-collaboration to fuel the future of creation and entrepreneurship.
- The 3DEXPERIENCE Lab Accelerator program facilitates high potential early to mid-stage startups by providing them access to the 3DEXPERIENCE Platform along with technical and business mentoring to help turn their ideas into businesses. Startups, entrepreneurs, students, makers, and individuals from industrial innovation departments or research laboratories based anywhere in North America, whose projects address city, life, lifestyle, the internet of things, Fab Labs or ideation themes, will have access to Dassault Systèmes’ cloud-based 3DEXPERIENCE platform, technical skills, mentoring and worldwide ecosystem, as part of one- or two-year programs to accelerate their product development.
- The 3DEXPERIENCE Fab Lab is a creative maker space, set up in collaboration with MIT’s Center for Bits and Atoms, providing the community of “makers” a co-working space and smart tools to create, innovate and experiment – and is connected to over 1000 maker spaces worldwide through the Fab Foundation.
Professor Neil Gershenfeld, director of MIT’s Center for Bits and Atoms and a founder and key influencer on the global Fab Lab movement, spoke at the grand opening.
Suchit Jain, Vice President Business Development and Community for Dassault Systèmes’ SOLIDWORKS brand said, “We recognize that the design and engineering world is changing – people are innovating and creating new products in school, in their homes, using 3D printers. Makerspaces and Fab Labs across the world are enabling these innovations by providing affordable and local means for creating products to anyone and everyone. There are over 1000 Fab Labs in the world today and doubling every 18 months. In last few years we have partnered with Fab Foundation to provide free access to design software in all Fab Labs, provide mentorship and help create next generation of hardware/software interfaces to shorten the distance between concept to a physical product. We are so excited to bring this concept to the Dassault Systemes campus and our community.”
