Boston Hosting 11th Annual Fab Lab Conference and Symposium

The makers are coming!

From August 3-9, designers and makers from more than 500 Fab Labs across 60 countries are descending on Boston for the 11th annual Fab Lab Conference and Symposium. They are coming together to share their technical expertise, to network with fellow makers and to, hopefully, pick-up some new tricks. Exhibitors will show off their latest projects, ranging from wind and solar-powered turbines, to thin-client computers.

Fab Labs are workshops created in communities across the globe to allow local entrepreneurs and students to access professional industry design tools, such as laser cutters, 3D printers, design software and more, to bring their ideas to life. Fab Labs were designed in Boston by MIT’s Center for Bits and Atoms. Fab Labs are melting-pots for the “maker” revolution, hosting a mix artsy and creative individuals…everyone from kids interested in building, adults looking to re-train for the modern workforce, or just apartment-bound people looking for an open space to tinker.

We at Dassault Systèmes are proud supporters of the Fab Foundation. Just last year, we donated our SOLIDWORKS 3D CAD program to the foundation to help keep designers everywhere supplied with the latest design software.

Our partnership with the Fab Foundation is just one example of our dedication to the designers of tomorrow. We are always focused on supporting tomorrow’s engineers and startups. Just recently, we released our SOLIDWORKS for Entrepreneurs and Incubators program. This program provides our software to startups for only $200, and 90 percent of that fee supports the education of school girls in Rwanda. SOLIDWORKS for Entrepreneurs, along with our Fab Foundation sponsorship, reflects our commitment to innovation and education.

“The Fab Lab network provides a place for everyone … to design and build products…using Dassault Systèmes’ SOLIDWORKS software,” said Suchit Jain, Vice President of Strategy and Community SOLIDWORKS, Dassault Systèmes. “We are proud to play a role in their success – a benefit to us all.”

We can’t wait to see what the designers and makers have up their sleeves this year. We hope to see you there!
