We hear a lot of compelling stories from our colleagues about how Dassault Systèmes customers are using our software to innovate, create, and keep their costs low…we couldn’t possibly highlight them all, but we can pick a few to showcase.Today’s example comes from MWV, a leading global packaging company based in Richmond, Virginia, with more than 15,000 employees across 30 countries worldwide and $5.4 billion in annual sales for 2013…a large organization, to say the least!
Think about all the things you buy at the store, and think about how it feels in your hand when you pick it up off the shelf.Then think of how those items are packaged – the colors and shapes, the information about the product, the assurance that the item is undamaged.Packaging is the first impression a product makes on a customer. MWV saw its beverage customers spending millions on primary packaging (e.g., the bottles that contain the liquid), but paying very little attention to the secondary packaging (e.g., the cardboard or plastic that holds a six-pack together), which is what really carries a brand’s equity on the shelf.
MWV saw a huge opportunity to help its customers design better secondary packaging, and that’s why they turned to Dassault Systèmes’ 3DEXPERIENCE platform for collaborative innovation. MWV wasn’t walking into customer meetings with some sketches on a notepad or pictures on easels…this isn’t the 1960s. Using our Concept Development software from Perfect Package, MWV designers can draw and simulate customized packaging concepts in 3D. Rendering concepts that used to take days now takes thirty minutes…and the whole process of bringing a new packaging design to market, which used to take 12-18 months, will be done in 6 months.
