Dassault Systèmes in the News – August Edition

It can be tough to keep up with all the great things that reporters and bloggers write about us, so check out these news highlights for Dassault Systèmes North America for August!

Bloomberg, August 2- Singapore 2.0: Lee Seeks Smart City Revamp as Old Model Ebbs

Despite being one of the smallest countries in the world, and certainly the smallest among its neighbors, Singapore has continuously boasted an impressive GDP and has always been at the forefront of innovation and economic growth. Now, as part of an initiative to further establish itself as a “Smart Nation,” Singapore has partnered with Dassault Systèmes to create a virtual 3D copy of the country so government agencies, citizens and businesses can develop urban technologies.

3DPrint Industry, August 18- SOLIDWORKS, Entrepreneurship and FAB11: Celebrating The Global Maker Movement

In case you missed it, Boston recently hosted Fab11 in August to celebrate the Fab Lab community through a series of Maker-oriented events, and to showcase the organizations mission to empower through technology, design and craft. In collaboration with Dassault Systèmes’ SOLIDWORKS, Fab Labs are reaching out to Makers and inventors to help bring their creations to life. Just last month, for example, SOLIDWORKS for Entrepreneurs was formally established. Currently, Fab Labs is working with the Rwandan government to start a Fab Lab in Rwanda, where SOLIDWORKS will be providing their software for 1 year at no cost.

Popular Science, August 19- Infographic: A Timeline of the Present and Future of Electric Flight

Everybody loves infographics so here’s one on the chronology of electric flight in respect to National Aviation Day that Dassault Systèmes put together with BBC. As it turns out, vertical take-off systems for passenger airplanes may not be such a far-fetched concept as we are ushered into yet another great age in aviation, where $15 flights and supersonic transport could become reality. Pretty soon, science-fiction authors would have to step their game up in order to keep up with the future!

CAD Edge, August 17- Shark Cage SOLIDWORKS Simulation

Just when you thought it was safe to go back in the water…

While we must commend and salute Jacque for his courage to swim amongst the sharks, lucky for him, he has managed to construct a strong and sturdy shark cage that can withstand the impact of a creature that weighs 3.5 tons and is able to swim at 35 miles per hour. Thanks to SOLIDWORKS, Jacque was not only able to model his cage, but also virtually simulate a shark attack, which allows him to design the most formidable shark cage possible.

Fortune, August 28- MySolidWorks: New Dassault Systèmes Platform Pushes ‘Manufacturing as a Service’

When Dassault Systèmes launched MySolidWorks back in February, the company wanted to establish a “manufacturing network” to connect and unite roughly 2.5 million users of its CAD software and those using the 3MF file format. Its goal was to close the gap between design and manufacturing by setting up a platform similar to that of Yelp, where users can review and rate various manufacturing services and find the most economical solution to their needs. With seven months into its life, the MySolidWorks community has grown significantly and continues to expand its influence.
