Here at Dassault Systèmes’ NAM headquarters in Waltham, Mass, we were very excited to welcome Dr. Mallika Marshal, Medical Reporter for WBZ-TV News, who had heard about our Living Heart Project. In her piece, which was featured on CBS Boston’s nightly news, she interviews Steve Levine, the engineer who helped pioneer the exciting project.
Levine explained how his daughter Jesse was his inspiration for the project. Jesse was born with a backwards heart, which has required countless surgeries.
“She’s had four pacemaker operations since she was two,” Levine told Marshal. The Living Heart Project gives doctors a 3D model of a heart to examine before they operate, a true game changer in the medical world. Not only can doctors examine the heart, they can also test out procedures and devices without ever cutting open a patient.
After completing her interview, Marshall got a firsthand look at the Living Heart Project. She was taken inside of the “Cave,” the room where Dassault Systèmes’ 3D technology allows users to explore the inside of a virtual heart, and got to experience the project.
“I can’t tell you what it was like to be inside ‘The Cave'” Marshall tells her audience,”…to actually be walking and moving inside the heart.”
