Ericsson Partners with Dassault Systèmes to Launch Digital Initiatives

A recent Ericsson survey of C-level executives uncovered two prevailing trends: first, the digital transformation of business is on the agenda of nearly all corporate management boards. And second, “most companies are uncertain about how to effectively execute on this clearly pressing need. Transforming a large and established enterprise, after all, is far riskier than starting a new business with everything to gain and little to lose. But in this time of accelerating change, inaction is by far the greatest threat of all.”

To avoid the very threat their survey unveiled, Ericsson has partnered with Dassault Systèmes to transform its digital business processes. To improve performance and efficiency, the company will replace its legacy applications with Dassault Systèmes “Business Operation Excellence” industry solution for an end-to-end digitalization of its innovation, business and operations processes.

The upgrade will enable Ericsson to deliver powerful consumer experiences to increasingly connected people and industries. In fact, Ericsson estimates that by 2020, our globe will be blanketed by 26 billion connect devices. In this “Networked Society,” mobile, broadband and cloud technologies will interact to make information and communication technologies faster, cheaper and more accessible, inspiring new areas of transformative innovation.

“It’s great that we finally have a ‘go’ on the new IT platform after many attempts in the past,” said Joakim Cerwall, Head of PLCM Operations and sponsor of PLM Transformation, Ericsson. “We have performed a thorough investigation and testing to find the best PLM solution for Ericsson to connect IT and the business units. This transformation is crucial to ensure an efficient digital handling of product data throughout the company, making Ericsson a competitive ICT player.”

“The new platform will ensure that we can automate and speed up the development flow and at the same time make relevant product information available to user groups such as sales, integrators and support,” said Johan Torstensson, Head of Group IT & Enterprise IT, Ericsson. “It is also crucial to enable faster time to market and to ensure that our customers are able to purchase Ericsson products through digital channels. The benefit of this project compared with previous attempts to introduce a new IT platform is that it is business driven.”

Ericsson understands that the seamless integration of high tech and telecom hardware and software is necessary to facilitate smart, connected software and service-driven experiences, which is why it has partnered with Dassault Systèmes to help enable this networked society.

Together, Ericsson and Dassault Systèmes have been relentlessly pursuing the next great idea for a combined 175 years. As we look ahead toward a society whose fabric is increasingly underpinned by powerful technology, we’re excited to continue connecting our citizens and driving global business.
