Dassault Systèmes just wrapped up its Design in the Age of Experience event in Milan, Italy, and the event lived up to its billing of “breaking the barriers of the physical world. Set at the magnificent Milano Congressi, this two-day event delved into the role of disruptive 3D experiences in the future of Design & Engineering, connected some dots between “Fiction” and “Function,” and spurred discussion around the capabilities offered Dassault Systèmes’ 3DEXPERIENCE® platform.
This first-of-its-kind event was an opportunity to discover and exchange ideas from around a global, taking a human-centric approach of design across the disciplines of Mechanical Engineering, System Engineering, Industrial and Creative Design, Styling and Program Management. It brought together designers, engineers, influencers – or just design enthusiasts! – with peers and Dassault Systèmes’ experts from CATIA, SOLIDWORKS, ENOVIA, SIMULIA, EXALEAD & 3DEXCITE. Attendees were invited to experience our solutions that serve 12 industries, including Transportation & Mobility, Architecture Engineering & Construction, and High-Tech.
The conference started off with a huge warm welcome by Dassault Systèmes’ executives Philipe Laufer, CEO, Dassault Systèmes CATIA, and Gian Paolo Bassi, CEO, Dassault Systèmes SOLIDWORKS, whose enthusiasm immediately set the tone for for the rest of the event. Attendees were then treated to keynote speaker John Maeda, Design Partner at Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers and former president of the Rhode Island School of Design. In his presentation, Maeda elaborated upon his philosophy of “elegant simplicity” and stressed that “the simplest way to achieve simplicity is through thoughtful reduction.” Following the keynote was Tales of Transformation, a series of presentations by entrepreneurs and innovators from various backgrounds and industries that ranged from parking to aviation. Day one concluded with a number of mini brand strategy sessions, which showcased all of Dassault’s main products and solutions.
On the second day of the event, Dassault Systèmes brought its full portfolio of solutions to the audience with members of each brand sharing their individual projects on the big stage – featuring everything from 3DEXCITE’s Immersive Cabin Experience to CATIA’s Inspired By Nature. Furthermore, day two also shone the spotlight on speakers and customers from Tales of Information individually, featuring Exiii founders Genta Kondo and Tetsuya Konishi, Elixir Aircraft CEO Arthur Leopold Leger, among others.
The first of four global events dedicated to the topics of design, science, manufacturing, and marketing in the “Age of Experience,” Milan’s event explored how nature can inspire the design of efficient solutions to human challenges, connecting the dots between designers and specialists in systems engineering, simulation, and big data technologies. We’ll look forward to seeing many of you in Boston on May 23-25 for “Science in the Age of Experience.”
