How Dassault Systèmes Partners Are Responding to COVID-19

Now is a time when we are seeing powerful examples of ingenuity in action during the race to address the needs arising from the COVID-19 crisis. Many Dassault Systèmes partners are rapidly adjusting their operations in order to develop personal protective equipment (PPE), ventilators and other support solutions.

The 3DEXPERIENCE platform allows teams to simulate manufacturing scenarios and interactions, capture and share insights with others and publish open source files to share designs – virtually connecting entire teams with simulation tools that save time, prevent design error and speed delivery to the medical community fighting this extreme battle. The 3DEXPERIENCE platform creates a cohesive digital thread throughout the innovation process by bringing simulation into the engineering workflow. Here are just a few examples of how our partners are rising to meet the challenges presented by the pandemic.

In Michigan, Novastar Solutions obtained emergency FDA permission to convert their 3D printer demonstration lab to a production site for printing ventilator conversion parts and more. Using industrial-grade HP Jet Fusion printers, Novastar Solutions has created a T-Shape part to convert BiPAP/CPAP machines into ventilators. They have already supplied 100 samples to two area hospitals for evaluation. They continue to work on creating face shield frames and face mask adjusters, using HP Open Source files.

In California, Pointfar Automation is working with doctors and researchers to develop digital twin models of both ventilator and human lungs. These digital twin models can simulate and virtually test a number of ventilators that are currently being designed by companies like GM and Tesla. This work is all powered by an open platform model that can connect to any controller which supports standard data exchange using the 3DEXPERIENCE Platform and Dymola.
