Dassault Systèmes announced some major news at the end of April – Procter & Gamble, one of the world’s largest consumer packaged goods companies, is using the 3DEXPERIENCE platform to design and manage its packaging and product design. We have the inside scoop following this announcement from a conversation with Philippe Loeb, Vice President CPG-Retail, and Brian Carboni, Industry Marketing Director CPG-Retail, who give us some in-depth answers on this new partnership.
QUESTION: What are the advantages of P&G using our “Perfect Product” and “Perfect Package” industry solution experiences on the 3DEXPERIENCE platform?
ANSWER: In an ultra-competitive industry like Consumer Packaged Goods, companies like P&G must deliver new materials, formulations and packaging that will help distinguish a product in the marketplace, build brand equity and inspire consumers to purchase. The more efficiently a company is able to manage all these new and modified packages and formulations, the quicker they can get to market and positively impact business results. With the adoption of the 3DEXPERIENCE platform and the use of Perfect Product and Perfect Package solutions, P&G will be able to reduce complexity and increase efficiency. The individual users of the solutions at P&G will spend less time looking for data, reuse data rapidly, make fewer mistakes, and spend more time innovating.
QUESTION: What will P&G specifically do with these industry solution experiences?
ANSWER: P&G is a company that never stops innovating or improving its products. They manufacture 7 billion units every year and each one must be perfect. P&G uses Perfect Package and Perfect Product to manage the complex ‘specifications’ of their products and packages. Specifications are the grouping of all data that perfectly describe how each product and package is to be manufactured, as well as the testing methods to ensure quality. You can think of specifications as the contract between marketing and the vast production system. There are several million specifications created or modified each year by P&G and that data will be precisely managed on the 3DEXPERIENCE platform.
QUESTION: How will the use of our platform assist P&G in delivering an improved experience for their customers?
ANSWER: The adoption of the 3DEXPERIENCE platform is the first step of the digitization of the innovation process of P&G. The 3DEXPERIENCE platform will enable P&G to connect 18,000 users worldwide in functions like research and development, product supply, quality and other functions to support the design and development of products. In this type of global collaborative environment, project data is digitized so it becomes traceable, shareable and reusable.
To illustrate this, imagine a telephone directory….if you were given a name, you could easily find the telephone number. But imagine if you were only given a street address….the challenge becomes much more difficult. By digitizing project data, all the data become searchable. Teams will spend less time looking for data and spend more time delivering innovative experiences that delight consumers and differentiate from competition. Additionally, data can easily be exchanged easily with consumers to gain greater insight into trends, needs and usage. And as P&G knows, the better you know the consumer, the better you can craft the product and brand experiences they are looking for.
QUESTION: How will other businesses – suppliers, distributors, etc. – benefit from P&G deploying the “Perfect Product” and “Perfect Package” industry solution experiences?
ANSWER: When you can discover and deliver the next breakthrough product more efficiently, you create a business environment which is beneficial to both retailers worldwide and a large supply chain ecosystem. Coordinating materials sourcing, logistics and delivery models at a global level is no simple feat but with the right digital tools and connection with consumers, companies like P&G can create a rising tide that lifts all boats.
