Making Personalized Health Care a Reality by 2030

In partnership with CITE Research, Dassault Systèmes surveyed 1,000 U.S. adults to determine what they believe life will look like in the year 2030 when it comes to their health, shopping habits, at-home environments, and daily transportation methods. This blog is my first in a two-part series that will dive into these results, and uncover what is most meaningful about consumer expectations for our not-so-distant future.

Personalized Health Care 2030“Personalization” is today’s new buzzword across a range of industries, and according to recent survey conducted by Dassault Systèmes, it’s not going away any time soon. When people discuss personalization, they are typically referring to a service or experience that is directly relevant to their wants and needs. In retail, a personalized experience can be anything from a targeted online ad to location-based services that enable sales associates to better address in-store shoppers’ needs. In transportation, it may refer to a car service, like Lyft or Uber, that is designed to get individual customers directly to and from their desired locations. Yet perhaps the most impactful personalized experiences can come in the form of healthcare.

Today, personalized healthcare is not unheard of, but it’s also not that common. The Cleveland Clinic views personalized healthcare as a “platform” that takes genetics, genomics, and all other biologic information into consideration when delivering care. This means that patients are treated based on their family history, genomic makeup, and predicted risks based on lifestyle habits, previous injuries, and illnesses, etc., instead of the trial-and-error approach that most healthcare practitioners currently take with patients.

License to CurePersonalized healthcare has the potential to improve patient outcomes, quality of life, and even longevity. So it’s no wonder that a survey of 1,000 U.S. adults found that most consumers have high hopes for new technologies that will allow them to better manage and maintain their own personal health. Of those surveyed, 83 percent say personalized preventative health plans based on behavior and nutrition will be most impactful on their health, while 79 percent say personalized preventative health plans based on genomics will be. Other technologies such as electronic medical record systems, devices that diagnose and dispense treatments at home, and wearables are also expected to be impactful.

But what is surprising is that respondents believe these technologies will be highly impactful to their overall health in just 11 years.

To make personalized healthcare the norm by 2030, medical device manufacturers must start innovating today based on what consumers want. With the Dassault Systèmes 3DEXPERIENCE platform, medical device manufacturers can deliver unmatched patient and physician experiences by connecting voice-of-the patient data; delivering life-like, multi-scale and multi-physic models, and enabling an end-to-end virtual environment for accelerated collaborative innovation. In other words, manufacturers can design, improve, and collaborate within a single platform to optimize each and every medical device before they are manufactured in the physical world. This saves manufacturers time and money, enabling them to get started on their next medical innovation faster than ever.

Medical Device ManufacturerWhile this solution addresses only part of the healthcare ecosystem, it gets important stakeholders to think together to solve both societal and individual issues.

Taking on issues related to healthcare is a daunting task for any one company, but with Dassault Systèmes’ healthcare expertise and 3DEXPERIENCE platform, this can become a more manageable endeavor. Dassault Systèmes offers a revolutionary approach to building disruptive new solutions to personalized healthcare.
