Industry insiders and analysts have wondered when 3D-printing will go “mainstream” and take over and change the way we create things at both the industrial level and in the home. That day is much closer with the world-renowned Massachusetts Institute of Technology offering a comprehensive, five-day course on additive manufacturing that is open to “engineers, designers, scientists, and anyone else who wants to become well-versed in the technology.” Professor A. John Hart is teaching the course, and he sat down with 3DPrint.com to talk about the course as well as the future of additive manufacturing.
The course is intensive and informative, which is expected since it’s taught by an MIT professor. Hart describes the class as follows,
“a fast-paced, hands-on experience that provides a comprehensive discussion of the technology and implications of additive manufacturing. We begin by discussing the technology landscape, industry direction, and the digital workflow required for implementing additive manufacturing (AM) and integrating with new developments in CAD, product lifecycle management, and simulation. The bulk of the course is then organized around detailed lectures, lab activities, and discussions addressing the fundamental processes, properties, and material capabilities of AM.”
“Additive Manufacturing: From 3D Printing to the Factory Floor,” begins July 31 and ends August 4. If you can’t attend or missed registration, don’t worry! The first lecture is being livestreamed here on July 31.
