Dassault Systèmes Drives Vehicle Innovation Toward the Driverless Car of the Future

When it comes to vehicle manufacturing and production, consumers (and industry regulators) have zero tolerance for defects. As the industry gears up for large-scale adoption of connected and, eventually, autonomous vehicles, the new generation of R&D processes will be required. What will this shift mean for automotive manufacturers, and how will it change the traditional design and development processes?  Two of the worlds largest vehicle manufacturers – Groupe Renault and PSA Group – recently announced how they are using Dassault Systèmes’ 3DEXPERIENCE platform today to design the cars of tomorrow.  Both companies demonstrate how use of 3D technology to visualize, design and create innovative products is the path forward for businesses of all sizes.

Here’s a snapshot of the news:

3DEXPERIENCE Platform Reaches 10,000 Users at Renault

Earlier this month, Dassault Systèmes’ 3DEXPERIENCE platform reached its 10,000th production user at Groupe Renault, providing collaborative product development across all of the company’s gloabl brands,  including Renault, Dacia and Renault Samsung Motors. With this implementation, Groupe Renault has deployed Dassault Systèmes’ virtual collaborative design and simulation applications across all of its engineering centers worldwide to bring its teams together on a single, unified platform from concept through production. This enhanced teamwork speeds up validation and manufacturing in the digital development phases of product design, all the way through to physical production, accelerating speed to market.

The applications used by Groupe Renault are the core of Dassault Systèmes’ “Target Zero Defect” industry solution experience, which enables comprehensive vehicle development capabilities to ensure right-the-first-time results from concept to final production. The Target Zero Defect solution also helps OEMs and their suppliers reduce risk associated with introducing new vehicles, minimizing the potential for vehicle recalls.

PSA Group Speeds Up R&D Digital Transition with the 3DEXPERIENCE Platform

PSA Group and Dassault Systèmes have been working together for more than 25 years, and the relationship between the two has only grown stronger over the previous 12 months. In May, PSA Group awarded Dassault Systèmes the Value Creation Product and Services award, which recognized the 3DEXPERIENCE platform as a crucial component of PSA’s global R&D digital transformation. With this latest announcement, PSA Group is enhancing its ability to manage the complexity of vehicle development and lifecycles using the 3DEXPERIENCE Platform.

As a key driver in the PSA Group’s Push to Pass strategic plan, the 3DEXPERIENCE platform serves to gather, manage and share all of the information relating to each product throughout its life cycle, from the design and engineering phases right through to after-sales service, all while maintaining a focus on customer needs and the passenger experience. The platform also allows the company to take on highly complex projects, such as those relating to the development of connected, communicating and autonomous cars.

These announcements offer further validation that the automotive industry is continuing to evolve into a customer-focused, innovation-driven economy. And with that, car manufacturers must create cars with the true experience of the end-user in mind in order to stand out. The development of virtual reality, autonomous, and alternative energy-fueled vehicles offers new innovations that make us rethink what’s possible in the future of transportation.
