Should We Rethink Car Ownership?
One such company is Los Angeles based EV start-up Canoo, which believes it is time to rethink traditional vehicle ownership and is using the 3DEXPERIENCE platform to transform an industry. In a keynote presentation at the 3DEXPERIENCE FORUM this past May, Olivier Bellin, head of operations for Canoo recounted how automobiles have touched nearly every aspect of society and industry for over 100 years. But while the allure of the open road has seen individual car ownership rates steadily rise over the past few decades, the reality of car ownership has drifted far from the promised ideal due to traffic and infrastructure issues, gasoline and maintenance costs, and environmental impact. Ride sharing apps like Uber and Lyft are exploding, providing people with alternatives to car ownership.
Competitive Advantage with the 3DEXPERIENCE Platform
According to Bellin, Canoo will offer a range of EVs to private and commercial customers by subscription only, on-demand, à la Netflix – and is poised to cause major disruption to conventional transportation industries with their subscription EV service – an innovative alternative to traditional car ownership.
To grow quickly in a competitive EV start-up space Canoo needed a solution that provided flexibility, low overhead, seamless collaboration with its production and manufacturing partners and suppliers. Canoo selected the 3DEXPERIENCE platform on the cloud to accelerate time to market.
