AKKA Shapes the Future of Autonomous Transportation

With the majority of OEMs and leading automotive suppliers announcing autonomous transportation as a core component of their long-term strategy, innovative systems and advanced technologies remain critical success factors to determining when these futuristic vehicles become a reality in the showroom.

Sophisticated connectivity shouldn’t be limited to the vehicle itself. Consumers demand a more communicative and integrated approach that extends the capabilities of autonomous transportation to connect with their smart technologies to better control and enhance the behavior of the car. Beyond their ‘ride’, drivers also demand a timely stream of net-based updates, GPS coordinates, and traffic/safety reports from the environment around them.

Leading edge automotive innovators like AKKA Technologies are proactively pursuing new technologies and processes to not only address high-potential markets, but also to advance the skills of their team in order to answer the challenges  and demands their customers will voice in the future. Their research center, AKKA Research, employs engineers with diverse skill sets and backgrounds and leverages their multi-industry experience and knowledge to cross-germinate innovation concepts, then explore what blooms.

“This age of smart and connected cars is upon us” Philippe Obry, chief innovation officer at AKKA Technologies

One of their groundbreaking projects is the Link & Go concept car (and its descendant, the Link & Go 2.0) which is a self-driving electric vehicle packed with innovations that could interest automotive OEMs for their future vehicle development.

Unifying with Technology

The Link & Go 2.0 is the collective achievement of 40 engineers working in AKKA’s offices around Europe. AKKA Research adopted the innovative applications of the 3DEXPERIENCE® platform, via the cloud, from Dassault Systèmes to enable their global stakeholders from multiple sites to collaborate smoothly together.

“By sharing the same data and application environment, we are enjoying true digital continuity and full compatibility from ideation to vehicle assembly”

– Jérôme J., project manager, AKKA Research

Multi-Site Project Collaboration

With all product and project data centralized, everyone has real-time access to the vehicle’s 3D digital mock-up, allowing them to work on it and exchange ideas as if they were working in the same office.

The 3DEXPERIENCE platform on the cloud was easily deployed and offers simple and intuitive design, engineering, simulation and data management applications. In less than two days, the team was fully operational at all eight sites.

The Future of AutonomousTransportation

For AKKA Research, tthe vehicle of the future is a connected, all electric autonomous car that can communicate with smart infrastructures – technology enhanced traffic signals, signs, toll booths, roads – and with smartphone apps. This evolution will change the face of mobility in our future cities for next-generation drivers. The Link & Go 2.0 goes beyond the realm of the car itself and shows how a connected car can fit in with the future of urban transportation as a whole. The technology platform of Link & Go connects industries, technologies, know-how, people and cultures to develop a futuristic vehicle concept for diverse, global markets over the next 10-15 years.
