Biting off one piece at a time

There’s an old proverb that asks: how do you eat an elephant? The answer is, of course: one bite at a time. The idea behind this saying is to encourage you to look for a new way to consider a problem. When you face something that feels overwhelming, you should start by doing what’s necessary, then do what’s possible and suddenly you are achieving what felt impossible.

Every company has digital transformation on their mind. COVID accelerated this pressure for many, as they quickly discovered how critical it is to be able to remotely operate their business and to have enhanced, extensive insights into operations to make quick, informed decisions.

The mere concept of any type of transformation feels daunting to many companies. Modernizing business processes to by embrace new technology can feel especially overwhelming, especially when combined with the fact the change must happen while simultaneously keeping business moving. It’s even made more complex currently due to pandemic-related challenges.

Dassault Systèmes strives every day to be a trusted partner that understands our customers, and when it comes to digital transformation this means gaining understanding about what’s stopping companies from making the jump. We know that successful digital change management is not an overnight process. We also know its key is to leverage the cloud. As such, we’re revealing programs that can help organizations take baby steps onto the path of digital transformation without having to completely shake up their working models all at once. Instead, we help identify some scenarios where digital transformation can initially be implemented.

One of the best examples of how we’ve done this is our work with Groupe Renault. To facilitate the introduction of the Renault EZ-FLEX, an electric experimental vehicle aimed to understand the last-mile delivery of goods in future smart cities, we worked with their in-house LCI (Cooperative Innovation Laboratory) to migrate innovation processes to the cloud. While Renault was used to using digital tools engineering design, they were not yet applying a full digital experience to manage and improve its projects. As a test case, the LCI adopted the Electro Mobility Accelerator industry solution experience on the cloud-based 3DEXPERIENCE platform to connect internal and external stakeholders in a virtual value network for open innovation and secure collaboration. All members could, in real-time, view and validate aesthetics and technical requirements, analyze market trends, and use 3D digital assets to manage all elements of the project.

You can read more here about how Groupe Renault took this step into adopting collaborative digital tools, developing the autonomy to engage in a new digital ‘test and learn’ experience – and ultimately deliver to market an innovative offering that meets market demand and creates new mobility experiences.

Want to learn more about how you can start ‘eating the elephant’ of digital transformation? We’ve developed a few ebooks to jump-start your thought process on how to take the first steps on how you can test the newest technologies to construct and validate your designs and products without the IT constraints.
