Bringing affordable prosthetics to India

Indian startup Inali knows what it means to give a hand to those in need.

Founded in 2016, Inali Foundation and Inali Assistive Tech has a mission to improve access to affordable prosthetic care and help people gain independence. Inali’s breakthrough idea is to create prosthetic arms that operate by detecting brain signals and are made in India. The result is precise, lower-cost electronic prosthetics available to people living with upper limb amputation who could not ordinarily afford proper prosthetic care.

As a member of the 3DEXPERIENCE Lab, Inali has access to the 3DEXPERIENCE platform, technical support and constructive feedback. The advanced tools allow Inali to save time in designing and prototyping hands, including multiple design versions to suit different needs of various upper limb disabilities. The support and feedback available through the Lab program has helped Inali develop a suite of products the team believes can change the face of affordable assistive healthcare in India and other developing nations.

Inali’s mission is to make a difference. It started with one man’s desire to help a 7-year-old girl born with no arms. In 2020, a year marked by trials and tribulations, Inali delivered on its mission with help from the 3DEXPERIENCE Lab.

In recent years, Inali has achieved the accuracy to speed up the process of designing and executing a fully functional bionic arm. Last year, as the COVID-19 pandemic spread, Inali used its resources to engineer a smart ventilator in the cloud in the record time of eight days.

With cases on the rise and India running short on ventilators, Inali led the rapid development of a safe, affordable ventilator that could be quickly manufactured and deployed for emergency use. They used the 3DEXPERIENCE platform and a collaborative approach with designers, healthcare professionals and engineering mentors from the Lab’s OPEN COVID-19 online community.

That’s in addition to making about 300 affordable prostheses available to people in need. Talking about giving a hand.
