 Get to know the winners !

 

Dominik WÖLLM is a german bachelor of arts in industrial design. Dominik finished his studies on HS Pforzheim in 2010

 Presentation of the concept :    Symbion-X is composed of parts of the words symbiosis and bionic.

 A symbiosis is a partnership of convenience between two parties, which complement each other. The term symbiosis is used extensively for any living together. Because the owner is always dependent on the Symbion-X, he builds a symbiosis with him. These facts are reflected clearly in the design. Rims with wires in two parts and casters with adapted elements also build a symbiosis like the seatshell.

Bionic deals with the decoding of „invention of animated nature” and its’ innovative realization of technology. Circular, floral shapes are reflected in the frame and the leaf-shaped seat cushion.

A large part of the seatshell is also a flowing and curved style. As a contrast with it, strongly mechanized parts like wheels, suspension system and forks are visible.

The whole appearance of the Symbion-X is not just like a symbiosis, but it shows concise characteristic of the bionic.

The suspension system and the lightweight seat shell are reducing the degree of intensity affecting the drivers body. This is achieved through a controlled absorbtion of the shock which comes up when the wheels touch the floor. Through this ingenious principle, the burdens of the spine are reduced up to 70%!

The approach from the beginning was to replace the conventional seat and back covering by a shell principle.

The seat is designed to relieve and also stabilize the spine.

The aim was to create a supporting element which achieves a high degree of individuality and functionality while rolling in an upright seating position.

 Dominik used CATIA part design, generative shape design, imagine and shape and different analyzing tools.

The project was created within 3 month from the final sketch to 1:1 scaled model.

It tooks about 1 month for the final design and construction in CATIA.

David BLANC is a french industrial designer, Master GSI Design.

Presentation of the concept :    Elusive is an ideation on modern watches and relativity of time.

Today, watches have other purposes than to give time. They can be linked to jewelry, fashion or technology. In many cases, watches are worn to show social achievement, group belonging or breaking established codes.

David choose to develop the “breaking established codes” theme and create a minimalistic concept watch that shows time differently.

This project attempt to represent the paradox of bringing to life an element that doesn’t exist => Time.

When searching for the correct shape, David came to the conclusion that it would be best to create a watch with a wide-open hole in its center.

It highlights the “notion of time”: a human invention that doesn’t represent anything real or universal.

In addition to this “shape” research, to oppose primary geometric shapes (squares, triangles, hexagons …) with time which is considered ambiguous. To confront the pragmatic side with the creative side. Pragmatism of geometrical shapes shows Man’s will to quantify time.

To emphasize the “unreal” aspect of time, the use of a laser beam has been selected to project directly the hour on the user’s wrist.

The “mechanical clock face” was chosen in order to increase the “Elusive” and “unphysical” aspect of time.
