The Sabelt brand is synonymous with the highest levels of safety in the world of supercars and motorsport. More recently, it’s also making a name for itself as a leading low environmental impact manufacturer through its Carbogreen project.
The Italian maker of car seats, seat belts and motorsport products is developing a new line of “green” reinforced seats. They’ll be made from new materials, including recycled plastics and carbon fibers and natural fabrics. The company’s goal is to reduce the amount of carbon fiber it uses without compromising on efficiency, strength and lightness.
Sabelt is managing this project and all of product development activities on the 3DEXPERIENCE platform, which it implemented as part of a long-term digital strategy to support its transition from a high-tech company with an artisan approach to a high-tech company with an industrial structure.
“When we plan to go to market with our environmentally friendly product line, all the material, selection criteria and characterizations will already be there in the 3DEXPERIENCE platform,” said Roberto Marengo, chief technology officer at Sabelt.
Gaining full control of its innovation and product development processes is critical for the company. All of Sabelt’s products are designed and built according to the specific needs of each OEM customer and delivered within a short timeframe. Being able to develop new products fast and efficiently is key, and for that the company needs a 360-degree view of its product development lifecycle.
“Everything is customized and the biggest challenge we have is to respect the timing and launch everything on time,” Marengo said.
