Accelerating aerospace composites production

A new process for producing composite materials promises to save aerospace and automotive manufacturers significant time and costs. Quickstep, a leading independent carbon fiber composites manufacturer in Australia, has developed a cutting-edge, patented process called Qure that it hopes will bring aerospace composites production cycle times closer to rates typical for sports and luxury cars.

The new technology has already been used with success to produce the chassis for a lightweight X-ray machine and carbon fiber fenders for a European sports car manufacturer. Now, Quickstep is adapting the process for aerospace applications. Quickstep collaborates with the world’s leading aerospace organizations to manufacture complex composite parts and assemblies for ‘build to print’ applications. At the moment it produces these parts with defined products and processes, but it hopes its proposed AeroQure solution will reduce aerospace composites production cycle times. Quickstep also believes its technology could be an ideal production solution for drones and eVTOL (electric vertical takeoff and landing) aircraft.

As Quickstep continuously innovates to distinguish itself in the market, it is also committed to modernizing its internal processes and workflows to operate as efficiently as possible.

“While AeroQure may be one of the enablers of efficient manufacturing in the future, we need to ensure that we produce composites competitively now, and that we don’t cease to continuously improve,” said David Doral, CTO and head of engineering at Quickstep. “A lean culture is paramount, further enhanced with technology and innovation to enable change.”

To bring its digitalized and paperless workplace vision to life, Quickstep has turned to the 3DEXPERIENCE platform to streamline its engineering and production processes and ease compliance with the strictest industry standards.
