Solving last-mile logistics with electric trucks

Xos electric trucks transform last-mile logistics
Xos believes their electric trucks can make last-mile logistics more affordable and sustainable.

Speedy fulfillment and distribution are a critical element in every online shopping experience. If logistics companies stand a chance of keeping up, they need to develop new, more sustainable delivery solutions while keeping costs down.

As a product makes its journey from the warehouse shelf or store to the customer’s doorstep, that final step in the delivery process – the last-mile logistics – is the one that leaves firms scratching their heads. Why? Well not only is it the most important aspect in terms of customer satisfaction, but it also is the most time-consuming and expensive part of the entire shipping process.

Los Angeles-based electric mobility provider Xos is working on a solution. The company’s founders, Dakota Semler and Giordano Sordoni, are two former fleet owners and operators, and they recognize the challenges delivery firms face first-hand around increasing emissions regulations and the rising costs of maintenance and fuel. Their fully electric trucks – Class 5 to 8, ranging from medium- to heavy-duty – are designed to overcome all these challenges and make last-mile logistics affordable and sustainable.

“About 70% of Class 3 to Class 8 vehicles operate on routes that are under 200 miles per day,” said Dakota Semler, CEO of Xos. “They return to base every night where they could access dedicated charging infrastructure. And that makes them ideal for electrification.”

Today, you can see dozens of Xos zero emission electric trucks out on the roads making deliveries to households and businesses across the US. What you may not know is they’ve been developed on the 3DEXPERIENCE® Cloud platform. The platform helps Xos to bring its design, engineering and manufacturing processes together in a single, secure, standards-based environment, and develop custom-built truck fleets that meet customers’ specific safety, security, reliability and sustainability requirements.

Xos now also uses the 3DEXPERIENCE Cloud platform to manage its growing fleet of electric vehicles along with the associated charging infrastructure and maintenance services.
