Supporting sustainability

Sustainability is at the heart of Dassault Systemes’ corporate purpose. A science-based company, we provide businesses and people with 3DEXPERIENCE universes to imagine sustainable innovations in the virtual world that are capable of harmonizing product, nature and life in the real one.

Our commitment to sustainability has a knock-on effect. Not only have we established a strategy to reduce emissions in line with climate science with a goal to reach Net Zero by 2040, our solutions help customers upgrade their environmental footprint. The 3DEXPERIENCE platform and virtual twin experiences allow customers to test and improve their breakthrough ideas without risk, streamlining the value creation process to reduce emissions and waste.

Just about every week we publish stories of customers using Dassault Systèmes technology to collaborate, design and create products that shape our world. This special sustainability edition features customers from around the world for whom our solutions provide value and are enabling sustainability objectives to be achieved.

CadMakers

A Vancouver-based integrated construction and manufacturing technology company, CadMakers was the virtual general contractor on a project that demolished the old paradigm that high-rise buildings must be made of concrete and steel by building an 18-story residence hall out of sustainably harvested Canadian wood. Using mass-timber products in lieu of more traditional structural materials saved 2,432 metric tons of CO2 on the building, which is home to more than 400 University of British Columbia students.  That’s the equivalent of taking 511 cars off the road for a year.

CadMakers used the 3DEXPERIENCE platform on cloud to create a 3D structural model and manufacturing simulations for the building, known as Tallwood House, that supported pioneering innovations in building materials, design collaboration and construction processes. The use of virtual design and construction (VDC) modeling and onsite assembly helped CadMakers complete the project about 70% faster and at less cost than traditional concrete buildings of the same size. Bureau Veritas

A global leader in testing, inspection and certification for the marine and offshore industry, Bureau Veritas aims to accelerate ship structure modeling and calculations that help customers comply with new environmental regulations and optimize ship designs for better fuel consumption. The company adopted the 3DEXPERIENCE platform and the Designed for Sea industry solution to drive digitalization, enable modeling and support collaboration among partners. Learn more.

BOUYGUES

Bouygues Group, through a technology partnership with Dassault Systemes, is developing a unified, enterprise-wide business platform to digitally simulate, predict performance characteristics and transform the design, engineering and operation of its products, projects and processes.

One example from Bouygues’ construction business is an autonomous building for citizens (ABC) in Grenoble, France, that is the first low-carbon, autonomous social housing facility. The ABC generates and stores its own electricity, harvests rainfall and processes its waste into compost and biogas energy. Read on.
