Our long-stated mission here at Dassault Systèmes is to harmonize product, nature and life. We constantly strive to put these words into action. We did that today by announcing we have joined the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi).
SBTi is a global initiative that helps companies establish science-based targets to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and transform business operations to fit the future low-carbon economy. As a science-based company that also recognizes the critical role the business community must play to mitigate climate change, we are proud to join a growing group of organizations that are setting emissions reduction targets in line with current climate science.
By taking this step, we are committing to define a roadmap to reduce our emissions to meet the goals of the Paris Agreement. This international accord aims to strengthen the global response to the threat of climate change and limit global warming to below 2 degrees Celsius above pre-industrial levels, and pursue efforts to limit warming to 1.5 degrees Celsius.
The United Nations has declared this the Decade of Action, encouraging all to take clear and urgent steps by 2030 to address the world’s greatest challenges, including climate change. Joining SBTi is one way for Dassault Systèmes to play our part – not only by structuring our own operations to reduce our footprint but also by acting as a sustainability model to our 270,000 customers.
We believe that climate change is not only one of the world’s greatest risks, it is also a great opportunity to engage in sustainable innovation, to find new ways of living and working and to bring carbon-friendly products to the market. Our participation in SBTi signals our dedication to do our part to contribute to climate action, and we are proud to have taken this step.
