This is a post in the series SIMULIA Community Best Practices featured on the blog. Come back for more posts about SIMULA Best Practices and other interesting simulation content.

The methodology explained in this Best Practice document describes the effective usage of the lifecycle state mechanism for ‘Simulation Templates’ using different types of the ‘Collaborative Spaces’ on the 3DEXPERIENCE platform in the context of the ‘Method Developer’ and ‘Simulation Analyst’ roles.

‘Collaborative Spaces’ help to organize content and manage access to the content. Based on the visibility level of the ‘Collaborative Space’, they are categorized into three types: ‘Public Collaborative Space’, ‘Protected Collaborative Space’ and ‘Private Collaborative Space’.

‘Simulation Templates’ are created by the ‘Method developer’ within the organization to automate certain standard processes by encapsulating well designed ‘Simulation Processes’ into a ‘Simulation Template’. The ‘Method Developer’ develops the ‘Simulation Processes’ and the ‘Simulation Template’ in a ‘Protected Collaborative Space’. The type of the ‘Collaborative Space’ in addition to the lifecycle maturity state controls the visibility of the ‘Simulation Templates’ created by the ‘Method Developer’. While the ‘Simulation Template’ is being developed, the lifecycle state of the ‘Simulation Template’ is kept in ‘Development’ state. As the ‘Simulation Analyst’ does not have access to the ‘Protected Collaborative Space’ used by the ‘Method developer’, consumption of an premature or incomplete ‘Simulation Template’ is prevented.

Finally, when the ‘Simulation Template’ is ready to be consumed by the ‘Simulation Analyst’, the lifecycle of the ‘Simulation Template’ is promoted from the ‘Development’ state to the ‘Released’ state. Now, a ‘Simulation Analyst’ who is part of a ‘Public Collaborative Space’ within the organization, can access and consume the ‘Simulation Template’.

Target Audience: Methods Developer, Simulation Analysts, Design Engineers, and so on.

In this Best Practice, you will learn about:

  • Effective usage of lifecycle states using different collaborative spaces to consume the Simulation Template for different roles.
  • Understand the object management in Public, Protected and Private Collaborative Space.
