Best Practices in Use of Materials Data for Simulation

grantaAccess Materials Property Data without Leaving Abaqus/CAE

SIMULIA Alliances Partner, GRANTA Design, provides the ability for FE analysts to access and use approved materials property data directly from a best-practice managed corporate resource, without leaving Abaqus/CAE and without the need for error-prone file transfer.

Developed in collaboration with leading engineering enterprises, including the members of the Material Data Management Consortium, the GRANTA MI software system enables companies to capture and analyze proprietary materials information, integrate it with the best available reference data, and deploy this resource to the engineers who need it.

It meets the stringent requirements for accuracy, control, and traceability of materials data in the aerospace and defense sectors, and is also widely applied in sectors including automotive, medical, and industrial machinery. Support is provided for each stage of the materials information lifecycle from test to simulation model, leading to effective data provision for CAE.

Takeaways

Materials information management is important throughout the simulation lifecycle. This eSeminar will demonstrate:

  • A systematic approach to capture, prepare, manage and use material data for CAE
  • Latest iteration of the MI: Materials Gateway for Abaqus/CAE
  • How data from in-house testing and design experience, other proprietary sources, and trusted references can be imported
  • How materials professionals can analyze, certify, and maintain this information, publishing the resulting models and design data in a secure and controlled manner and also how Abaqus/CAE users can browse the resulting database, and select and apply the relevant materials models, and are assured that they are fully traceable

Key Questions

Q: Does Granta MI understand and predict grain/microstructure dependent property from manufacturing simulation to feed into CAE code?

Q: Can the user request material data in a unit-system of their choice?

Q: Can we also integrate this if we run the Abaqus solver from Hypermesh?

Q: Can you explain the differences between Granta CES and MI?

Q: Is the flow curve data for the CAE Gateway using effective plastic strain?

Q: Who establishes the CAE library as far as what materials are seen in Abaqus/CAE?

Q: Does the MI Gateway link back to the online Granta database or an on-premise corporate Granta database?

Q: Is the stress-strain curves made from the data, or the data digitized from the curve?
