In early 2020, we launched the SIMULIA Champions program. The 2020 SIMULIA Champions are the inaugural team of brand ambassadors, whose expertise and passion position them to advance the future of simulation technology. In this series of blogs, we introduce some of our individual SIMULIA Champions, finding out more about their history – and future – with the technology.
G.S. Krishnamurthy is a Group Manager – CAE at Royal Enfield, a unit of Eicher Motors, in Chennai, India. Royal Enfield manufactures motorcycles and is known in particular for the Bullet, which was first produced in 1932 and is currently the longest-running motorcycle in history to be in continuous production.
Kristhnamurthy has been working in the two-wheeler industry for most of his career and is passionate about the products he helps to build. As a teenager, he wanted to own a Royal Enfield bike, so working for the company now is something of a dream come true. He began his career as a testing engineer, then gradually moved into finite element analysis. In his current position, he focuses on NVH and multibody dynamics, and is also in charge of manufacturing simulation and automation of CAE processes. Krishnamurthy has been working in the two-wheeler industry for 20 years, and is responsible for implementing new methods in the areas of MBD, NVH and Systems Modeling.
At Royal Enfield, Krishnamurthy and his colleagues use numerous types of Dassault Systèmes software, including Abaqus, fe-safe, Isight, Simpack and Tosca. They have been using this software for seven or eight years. These tools, Krishnamurthy says, are very helpful in solving the challenges that engineering presents. While the challenges may be difficult, he adds, the reward of creating something that impacts a customer’s life make the hard work worth it.
“When you see the customer using the product, that gives you personal satisfaction,” he says. “That inspires us to come to the office in the morning.”
Krishnamurthy has a background in mathematics, which led to his career in engineering. He is grateful to his many teachers and bosses for helping him learn and advance to the point where he is today.
“They have taught me a lot of things, and without their help, teaching and inspiration I would not have reached this point,” he says.
Besides his passion for engineering, Krishnamurthy is a fan of classical music, particularly Carnatic music, a very old musical form that is well-known in Southern India. He likes to attend concerts when he can.
SIMULIA is pleased to welcome G.S. Krishnamurthy into the 2020 SIMULIA Champions program and excited to continue working with him in the future. Stay tuned to the blog to learn more about our other 2020 SIMULIA Champions.
