Meet SIMULIA Champion Jamison Huber

Recently, SIMULIA introduced the 2020 SIMULIA Champions, the inaugural team of brand ambassadors whose expertise and passion position them to advance the future of simulation technology. In this series of blogs, we will be getting to know some of our individual SIMULIA Champions, finding out more about their history – and future – with the technology.

Jamison Huber is a Senior Simulation Engineer with Doosan Bobcat in Bismarck, North Dakota. A graduate of North Dakota State University, Huber received a Master’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering, discovering an interest in and talent for Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD). His passion for computers led him to begin college as a computer science major, but he soon found himself drawn toward simulation, which would ultimately become the foundation for his career. His first job in simulation was doing some work for a professor, which would continue throughout graduate school.

Huber would then go on to work for Doosan Bobcat, a company that is most famous for inventing the skid-steer loader and opening up an entirely new compact construction equipment industry. Bobcat is also known for its compact track loaders, compact excavators, mini track loaders, and the Toolcat, a utility work machine.

Huber’s work focuses mainly on CFD issues; his responsibilities include underhood thermal simulations, multiphase simulations, and acoustic simulations. He enjoys his work, even the inevitable challenges that come along.

“Largely speaking one of my biggest challenges is if I can’t really figure out a problem or, not if I can’t solve the problem, but if I can’t figure out why the problem exists or what’s causing that problem,” Huber says.

A difficult problem can be part of an engaging career, however, and Huber doesn’t give up until even the toughest issues have been solved.

“[I] just keep trying other things, trying to find the next possibility that could be the culprit,” he explains. “Either I have a new/different idea or Tristan [Donley, SIMULIA Industry Process Consult – Mgt Senior Manager] and her team have a new idea.”

Being able to solve these problems is a reward in itself, and even more rewarding is learning how his work in simulation affects others.

“What you see in someone’s face when you surprise them, if they didn’t know you could do something [with simulation] or are just kind of intrigued by what you’re doing, that inspires me and drives me,” says Huber.

Huber grew up working on his family’s farms, and remains an avid outdoorsman who likes deer hunting, fishing, golfing and working on cars and motorcycles. He loves fixing problems and answering questions, which is what drove him to pursue engineering after starting out working with computers.

SIMULIA is pleased to welcome Jamison Huber into the 2020 SIMULIA Champions program, and excited to continue working with him in the future. Stay tuned to the blog to learn more about our other 2020 SIMULIA Champions.
