This eSeminar will present an overview of the two particle methods in Abaqus – Discrete Element Method (DEM) and Smoothed Particle Hydrodynamics (SPH). Different techniques for particle generation, applications, and the most recent enhancements in Abaqus for both methods will also be presented.
Learn about
- SPH technique for modeling violent free-surface fluid flow (such as wave impact) and extremely high deformation/obliteration of solid structures (such as ballistics).
- Discrete element technique for modeling particulate media and performing analyses such as granular material mixing or segregation, transport, and deposition of particulate materials.
Presenter
Syed Murtaza Abbas, SIMULIA Solutions Consultant
Syed Murtuza Abbas moved from Ohio to Texas in April 2015 to join the SIMULIA technical support group at SIMULIA’s South office in Dallas. In his current role as a SIMULIA Solution Consultant, he enjoys working with Abaqus and fe-safe users by helping them get the most out of their simulations.
Before moving to Texas, he worked for Procter & Gamble in collaboration with SIMULIA developing musculoskeletal human models and taught at the University of Cincinnati as an adjunct professor. He received his bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from Aligarh Muslim University, India and his PhD in structural engineering from University of Cincinnati, Ohio.
