Particle Methods in Abaqus: DEM vs. SPH

This eSeminar will present an overview of the two particle methods in Abaqus – Discrete Element Method (DEM) and Smoothed Particle Hydrodynamics (SPH). Different techniques for particle generation, applications, and the most recent enhancements in Abaqus for both methods will also be presented.

Learn about

  • SPH technique for modeling violent free-surface fluid flow (such as wave impact) and extremely high deformation/obliteration of solid structures (such as ballistics).
  • Discrete element technique for modeling particulate media and performing analyses such as granular material mixing or segregation, transport, and deposition of particulate materials.
