- Valmet expands the usage of Dassault Systèmes’ 3DEXPERIENCE platform with CATIA applications for isometrics
- 50% reduction of lead time to generate isometric drawings
Dassault Systèmes is enabling Valmet, a leading developer and supplier of technologies and automation services for the pulp, paper, and energy industries, to improve the accuracy and performance of its piping isometric drawing processes. By adopting Dassault Systèmes’ CATIA applications powered by the 3DEXPERIENCE platform, Valmet has been able to reduce the lead time for isometric drawing generation by up to 50 % and simultaneously increase the quality of deliverables.
Piping isometric drawings are part of an isometric representation of a single pipeline in a plant. This is the most important deliverable of the piping engineering department, as piping fabrication and installation work are based on isometric drawings. Industrial equipment companies, such as Valmet have traditionally relied on separate systems to design, produce parts, and run a plant.
Valmet has been using the 3DEXPERIENCE platform by Dassault Systèmes to unify and manage its product development and order fulfillment across its engineering and service centers in 30 countries. Valmet extended its use of the platform by adopting the CATIA application to use for Isometrics.
“Thanks to CATIA applications, we have been able to increase the level of automation of isometric drawings. We now receive the product lifecycle management information needed for the isometric drawings directly from the 3DEXPERIENCE platform. This has reduced the time needed for generating the documents and drawings by up to 50 % and ensure higher data accuracy. We are also better prepared to meet with user-specific requirements and standards” notes Tommi Friman, Senior Engineering Manager, Valmet
By deploying CATIA applications, Valmet is now designing its specific sections 3D Piping and HVAC systems with Dassault Systèmes’ solutions. It has also extended the use of CATIA in piping to its supply chain partner and engineering company Etteplan.
“CATIA applications have eliminated the need to manually edit isometric drawings significantly. This enables us to concentrate more resources to processes where we can create higher value for Valmet and support them with the industrial change,” said Jari Pekka Mielonen, Regional Manager, Etteplan.
“With the 3DEXPERIENCE platform, Valmet has been able to innovate from a fragmented environment into a more streamlined landscape thus providing real results. The company can simply adopt additional applications and securely access a digital, single source of real-time information related to products, parts, processes, and projects, thus streamlining the whole process efficiently,” said John Kitchingman, Managing Director, EURONORTH, Dassault Systèmes.
